By Craig Hubert | One of the best things about every time The Knife releases a video is the written statement that accompanies the release. For “A Tooth for an Eye,” the new single and leadoff cut from their upcoming album, “Shaking the Habitual” (out April 9 on Mute), the duo doesn’t disappoint. “Who are the people we trust as our leaders and why? What do we have to learn from those we consider inferior?,” the band asks in a statement. This idea is visualized by directors Roxy Farhat and Kakan Hermansson as a gym-set dance routine featuring a group of tank-top wearing, muscle-bound male athletes. Their fearless leader? A young girl, dressed as a referee but acting more like a miniature drill sargent, leading the men on a choreographed journey toward exploring the vulnerability. “There is no shame in her girlieness,” the band says, “rather she possesses knowledge that the men lost a long time ago.” Watch the video below.
